Thursday

Sorry we were not able to post an update on Thursday!  We were busy preparing the special exhibit!

On Thursday, we enjoyed a team scavenger hunt around the yard.

The prize at the end was a huge bucket of water balloons (our awesome neighbors Kappy and Ash were sweet enough to fill 200 water balloons for us ... their efforts are very appreciated by us and the campers)!

In addition to the scavenger hunt, one art project comes to my mind as I reflect on Thursday.  We taught the girls (and ourselves!) how to create with encaustic paint.  This melted wax paint is not very commonly used with kids (partly due to the danger that comes with heat, partly due to the cost, partly due to the difficulty in using it), but it was fun and educational for us! I think their paintings (the ones with squares on blocks of wood) turned out great!

Thanks for taking the time to read about this past week!  We had a blast!

SPLASH!

We had a wonderful, wet Wednesday at Art Camp today!  After hastily finishing two MOMA inspired paintings and a few activities, we enjoyed a huge inflatable water slide!

It was amazing how quick the morning activities were finished today... the girls were VERY eager to finish so that they could enjoy every minute of today's special inflatable!

We splashed,

smiled,

danced,

blew bubbles,

drank lots of lemonade,

spent time with friends,

and created spin art (a rented machine from the inflatable company)!

What a great day!  I'm sure these sweet girls will sleep well tonight ... I know we will!

BIG words and BIG time fun

Although these campers are little, our Tuesday together is best described as BIG!  The museum of the day was the GUGGENHEIM in New York City, and a painting in the Guggenheim that we learned about was painted by KANDINSKY ... so lots of BIG words were added to these girls' vocabulary today! This book helped us with the educational part of camp today!

Today's BIG time fun began with spirographs (another BIG word)!  These little contraptions help you easily create intricate designs.  Your girls brought home their spirographs today, so ask them to teach you how to use them! (There are some 30 second youtube videos out there if they need a reminder on the directions!)

We also made homemade watercolor paints today!  The girls loved getting to follow the recipe and see the finished products! The paints are drying tonight, and will be ready to take home tomorrow.

We also decorated placemats for lunch time.

Thanks for sharing the week with us! We have BIG plans for tomorrow too (be sure to pack a bathing suit)!

P.S. A BIG thank you to our neighbors Clara Parker and Della Joyner Perry!  They are incredible camp counselors, and we could not do Art Camp without them!

A Fun First Day!

What a fun first day! Today your girls learned all about the High Museum in Atlanta, Georgia.

Each girl's creativity was shown through the multiple paintings we worked on today (all of which were inspired by pieces in the High)... this is a talented bunch! We won't post pictures of any of their masterpieces yet ... we want them to be a surprise for you at the end of the week!

In addition to painting, three other activities were a really big hit.  First of all, they threw paint filled eggs at a poster board that we hung on a tree in our yard!  It was a messy activity for sure, but the girls smiled from ear to ear as they watched the paint burst out of each thrown egg.

Second of all, they really enjoyed our dress up photo booth activity!  After learning the Bible verse Colossians 3:12 (Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, CLOTHE yourselves in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.) and learning what it means to spiritually clothe themselves, we literally clothed them in dress up attire for a photo booth.  We got some hilarious pictures and had a great time.

Third of all, we read a cute book about crayons titled The Day the Crayons Quit.  Our logo this year (on the invitation and our t-shirts) has crayons and so we were so excited to find this funny children's book to go along with our logo theme.

Your girls are so sweet ... thank you for sharing them with us!  We're looking forward to another fun day!

P.S.  Ask your girls to teach you how to play Spot It! It's a fun family game and they each took home the materials to play it with :)
